“In 2008, through years of organic growth since the establishment of Waterford Regional Technical College in 1970, WIT was enjoying equality in terms of student numbers (9,201) with University of Limerick (12,040) and Dublin City University (10,927) — and at that time WIT had twice as many enrolled students as IT Carlow (4,900).

In the subsequent decade, much like the city’s economic experience, the gap has widened between WIT and UL and DCU. Instead of receiving a fair share in terms of funding, the “Regional”, as it’s still known locally, has been ravaged and its development, or lack thereof, has paled in comparison with its peers.”
